HANDICRAFTS
In 2009, Zerafshan Tourism Development Association within its project frame of “Community Based Tourism in the Zerafshan Valley” launched a small initiative on handicraft development. The manufacture and selling of handicraft products (souvenirs) to tourists has now become a valuable additional source of income for many women living in rural areas of the valley. This sector of development was able to successfully build upon the region’s long tradition of wool crafts. Two groups of handcrafters in the Jamoats of Voru and Shing are currently selling their products in the Zerafshan Art Store Armugon which opened on the 7th of July 2009 in Penjikent.
